Solid Wastes

1. Re-use and recycling of material during the renovation and construction phase

The renovated building at Z.O.O. was completed using a significant quantity of recycled materials. Brick, wood and radiators were recycled either by reusing them in the renovated building or sorting and re-selling them to off-site buyers. Considering that producing new building materials themselves requires a significant use of energy, using recycled building materials significantly reduced the amount of energy spent and reduces the amount of energy embodied in the buildings themselves. Moreover, in Chez Soi’s and Z.O.O.’s newly constructed buildings, the Portland cement mixture is reduced by using fly ash. Recycling of waste materials at all of the building sites is also a priority, further reducing the materials and energy used.

2. On-site composting facilities

On-site composting facilities were provided to help households reduce their production of solid wastes.

3. Education

The educational program encourages domestic recycling and use of the on-site composting facilities.
